Minor Board Review 2015

It is hard to believe that another GAA season has ended. It has been a great year for the Cill Chartha Minor Board with teams competing at every age level . This at times can be hard with such a small population to pick from, with many young players having to play at 2 different age levels.

All our teams took part in Division 2 leagues and championship with the exception of our U16 team which played in Division 1.The season began at the end of February with our Minors, who were followed shortly by our U16 team.   We are a club who, together with our neighbouring club, make up our local Secondary School team, Colaiste Na Carraige. Colaiste na Carraige has had a very successful year, with their Senior team going on to win The Markey cup, crowning them Ulster Champions. The school proceeded to play in an All-Ireland Semi-Final, losing by a single point in injury time.

As a club, Gaelic Football is the only competition we take part in. Hurling is not part of our training programme. As usual this club would not function without all the time and effort graciously given up by our many volunteers.  We managed to get at least 4 people to make up each Management team with more helping out at the younger levels  to try and give each team as much help as possible to compete to their best levels of ability.

All our teams went on to have good success at regional level but unfortunately we didn't manage to win at County level. We got close on two occasions; our U14s made it to the county league final and the minor team narrowly lost out in the championship county final against Milford.

Our U8s and our U10s both took part in many blitzes which took place at home and neighbouring clubs, with many fun, but competitive, games taking place. Our U12s went on to win  their shield title. Our U13s did very well in their competition also, but were unsuccessful in their Semi-Final. Our U15 Team took part in the Óg Sport competition, coming in as runners up to our neighbours, Naomh Columba in the Southern Division, and competed in the County Finals in Dungloe.

Our club was well represented at county level with players at minor, U17 and U16 level. Conor Doherty was part of the County Minor team, which won the League title, and was part of the Ulster Championship County Minor team also. Daniel Lyons was part of the Donegal U17 team, which won the McGuigan cup. Brian O'Donnell, Shane Gillespie and Gary Molloy were members of the U16 Team which took part in the Buncrana Cup.  Conor O'Donnell was chosen to represent our local National School, Scoil Chartha Naofa, at the U12 Skills Competition. He succeeded in coming in 4th which was a great achievement. Thankfully, we have lots of talent coming through at many levels.

Our U16 Team was the only team to take part in a Division 1. With a lot of hard work and commitment they did very well and went on to win the Regional Division 1 Championship, overcoming many strong teams to get there. Unfortunately we lost out to the eventual County Champions, St. Eunans, at Semi Final stage.

We have members from all our underage teams taking part in the County Development Squads at the moment, which is also a good boost for us as a Club. We look forward to 2016 with great expectation and are looking forward to seeing all our teams taking part in Competition.
